Innovation is a basic condition for the growth of economies. In Europe, the potential to create new business opportunities thanks to space technologies and satellite navigation and telecommunication systems (including GMES & GALILEO) is enormous. SMEs are the main actors to convert worthwhile innovative research & innovation ideas into successful commercial products, to create new jobs and boost the economy.

Space not only spawns the world's most innovative and most intricate technologies, but also the most thoroughly tested and thus the safest. Many of those technologies have found their way back to Earth - space technology touches virtually every aspect of our everyday life. From intelligent textiles to car safety, from medical innovations to novel engineering solutions, from gaming technology to high-tech environmental-control systems, we are surrounded by technology that originated in the space sector and is now generating profits for businesses in a multitude of other markets.

The main mission of the ESA TTPO is to facilitate the use of space technology and space systems for non-space applications and to demonstrate the benefit of the European space programme to European citizens.

In July 2002, the European Space Incubators Network (ESINET) was launched by four partners (ESA, EBN, WSL and D’Appolonia), as an experimental platform for the transfer of knowledge and technologies. Today, ESINET has become the leading network of incubators focusing – wholly or partially – on space related tech
nologies used in all sectors. Its members stand for high technology business incubator facilities with a proven track record.

Beginning of 2007, ESA invited EBN, the European Business & Innovation Centre Network, to integrate ESINET as a structural thematic component of the EBN Network and to further professionalize and deploy its operations.

Since 2009, EBN is managing ESINET and implementing the new strategy and offer to members, by increasing the deal flow of information.

"EBN experience is a great stake for our ESINET community, whose results have been achieved thanks to the efforts and the support of the key women and men working in the BICs, with the aim of facilitating innovative entrepreneurship in Europe and beyond"

Bruno Naulais - ESA TTPO- ESINET Network Manager
